We understand from our VAT advisors that any purchaser buying a property with a view of letting it on a commercial basis could if they wish register the property as a business for VAT and recover this input tax. We are advised that the net rental income from the property and the value of any own use would then be subject to VAT but after three years any sale of the property would not require VAT to be paid on the sale.
